free.net.ph Goes to the Beach

Work is being done to migrate all free.net.ph services from The Leather Collection's server connected via PLDT DSL to a server hosted at ServerBeach's carrier-class data center in South Pointe, Virginia, which is fed by dual OC-48 uplinks to the Peer1 network and boasts a 99.99% network uptime guarantee.

Amanpulo, our first server, is powered by Debian GNU/Linux Sarge, and runs on a machine with an AMD Athlon XP+ 2600, 1GB RAM, and dual 80GB IDE hard drives in software RAID 1.

This is a service to the free.net.ph community by Federico Sevilla III, who now provides managed Zope/Plone web hosting, email, and mailing list services under the banner of Q Software Research.

Progress on the migration of services will be posted as comments to this blog entry. Keep checking!

free.net.ph Website Migrated

Milestone: the main free.net.ph website (this one you're viewing) has been successfully migrated to Amanpulo, which for this service is powered by Apache 2.0.53, Zope 2.7.4, and COREBlog 1.11. User blogs will be migrated when things are more stable. Hooray for 300 sec DNS ttls!

free.net.ph Blogs Migrated

Milestone: the following blogs have been successfully and painlessly migrated to Amanpulo: clair.free.net.ph, dsas.free.net.ph, jijo.free.net.ph. Mail has been sent to the blog owners about the new secure URL for accessing the ZMIs of the blogs.

Anton's Website Migrated

Another mini milestone: anton.free.net.ph has been migrated to Amanpulo. It's really more TLC's bandwidth that's limiting this part of the migration.

The email and mailing lists are a totally different story that are reserved for another, longer night of hacking.

free.net.ph Email and Mailing Lists Migrated

Milestone: free.net.ph email and mailing list archives migrated.

Active free.net.ph email accounts (those that replied to my broadcast/survey) have been transferred to Amanpulo. Mail transfer will be done after other more critical tasks are completed. In the meantime, new mail is accessible at mail.hosting.qsr.com.ph while old mail is accessible at cyrus.free.net.ph.

The archives have also been transferred, and a database rebuild is in progress.

Two Major Milestones

Two major milestones.

Milestone 1: email accounts of The Leather Collection, Inc. have been migrated. Basic webmail preferences as well as address books have been transferred, as well. TLC is hosting.qsr.com.ph's first paying customer, and therefore significantly helps keep the service running, free of charge for free.net.ph and linux.org.ph.

Milestone 2: the Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) mailing lists have been migrated! Major email traffic, here we come!
