New Archives Server

In an effort to improve the performance and reliability of our searchable mailing list archives, we are moving the services to a new home. A new server dedicated for this service has been set up in the San Antonio, TX data center of ServerBeach.

All mailboxes have been transferred from the current server, and a database rebuild is in progress. New mail will be held in a queue until the new server has completely rebuilt its database and the service is switched over. In the mean time, the old server will continue to serve up data from its existing albeit currently un-updated database.

This service continues to be provided to the community free of charge by Federico Sevilla III as part of the managed hosting services he provides under the banner of Q Software Research Corp.

Apache Worker MPM

Aside from the fact that the new server will be dedicated for the mailing list archives, it also has a slightly faster CPU (an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ at 2100MHz) and uses Apache's worker MPM. The old server needed to support PHP and had to use Apache's traditional prefork MPM. Hopefully this server will be able to handle more concurrent users without choking.

Migration Complete

The transfer is complete, and the new server has begun handling archives.free.net.ph. DNS changes should propagate soon, since the old A record had a TTL of 300 seconds. Enjoy!
